Come Settle

Alex Maxwell Poem Kubili

The proud granite stand saturated
Reflects, again the morning come
Fierce the hungry night, dark rains
Run, the deepest thoughts recede

Steady roughened hand, tends the fire
Awakens the blackened pot to life
The placebo induced comfort survives,
Draws forth to clean long cast shadows

The farmer sets trained hand to plough
Green to brown his fields patiently turned
While Robin darts the hedgerow, to roust
Where encroaching brambles over reach

The poet sets out to stride his pantry clear
Head down, the overflowing reservoir
Streaming currents race the steep spouts
Rumble rush churns, froths and bubbles

The clouds across the vibrant sky broom
Nature weaves the yarn through her loom
